The Greatest Nation In The Universe Is The Imagination
ART PERIOD
AN ONLINE GALLERY FOR FINE ART
TJ Byram:
Born in Maine in 1954, Daddy was army and we didn't stay anywhere longer than a year. I have my Dad's photo collection of people, places, night scenes, you name it. His photos were well worth emulating and I started taking photos as a teen. After becoming a Mother and Grandmother, most of my photography was directed towards my family. My husband encouraged me with a nice SLR and a few lenses. I read every book in the library and followed friends into their darkrooms. Photgraphy was/is a wonderful passion of mine. Now that I have a lot of time, I have turned my attention to capturing other heart stirring scenes.
I have had a photo on the front page of the local newspaper, done all of the phography for the workplace, including a website.
I hope to continue to hone my skills and use my camera as a second language to communicate with others, throughout time, distance and all other boundries!
Emil Chendea:
Born in Romania July 18th, 1937. I attended Fine Arts High School 4 years, and I studied fine arts, painting, art history, graphic design at the Fine Arts Institute in Bucharest, Romania, a 6 year curriculum.
Many of my works (designed and illustrated books) were awarded with national and international awards.
I immigrated with family to the United States in 1980 and one year later I started working at Macmillan Educational Company, a division of Macmillan Publishing Inc., in New York City, as a graphic artist.
Using my old Minolta I took thousands of photos in Manhattan and in Long Island where we lived, and after we moved to Florida in 1997 I continued to take pictures, this time attracted by the marine, fishing and boating subjects. With the arrival of the digital camera I switched to a Canon Rebel continuing to take photos and converting most of them into Giclees.
And I started painting again after many years of interruption. Real painting. I could not resist the temptation to lay down on canvas, the beauty of the landscape here in Florida, from Pensacola to Port St. Lucie and from Tarpon Springs to Islamorada in the Keys. My work was appreciated, and I have received awards in prestigious shows. Some of my artwork is in private and public collections in USA, Canada and Australia.
I have participated in art shows in E. Northport and Smithtown, Long Island, NY.
One man show with paintings at IGFA in Dania Beach, FL in 2001.
One man show at the Governor's Cabinet Meeting Room in Tallahassee, Fl. in 2006.
Member of the Coral Springs Artist Guild 2003-2006
Born Sept. 24, 1958 in Peoria, IL, having 7 brothers and 1 sister, I was the middle child.
Education: I had a Catholic school education and was an average "C" student, as my mind was always on art. Whether I was drawing, painting, doing pottery, ceramics or making jewelery, I was always busy with my artwork.
After high school, I took a sculpture class and a jewelery/art metal class at Bradley University in Peoria. Over the years I have taken art classes at Illinois Central College, Peoria Art Guild, the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, and the Illinois Art League.
Awards: Illinois Art League - 1995 - Honorable mention for oil painting "Transition", which has since been sold.
Illinois Art League - 1997 - 2nd place ribbon for bronze sculpture "Head Tree", in private collection.
To me, creating art is a way to vent the complexities of everyday life. Like a dream, some of it may make sense, some of it may not. I just try to make my art visually appealing and hope that people enjoy what they see.
Italian/American, born in Brooklyn, NY on August 18th, 1948.
I started drawing at an early age and have always been drawn to creativity in all forms. At the age of 12, I got my first camera and fell in love with black and white photography.
Education: I majored in Commercial Art in high school and continued to take photos of the beauty I saw in everything. When I wasn't in school or working, I was either creating or working out with martial arts, which I got involved in at age 15 and have been a practioner for 45 years, holding the rank of 6th degree black belt.
After high school, I began experimenting with different mediums, mostly colored markers, pencils, some charcoals, writing poetry, as well as photography. I now had 5 cameras with multiple lenses for all types of shooting, I had two 110 mm portrait cameras and three 35 mm. By this time, I had my own darkroom and did all my own black and white developing and enlargements.
Today, I still enjoy my photography, appreciating the technological advances (digital), as well as all the wonderful graphic programs and tools to digitally enhance photos. I have continued with my sketching and charcoal work, with a new niche being found in sculpting, opening up new pathways for my creativity. I also plan on venturing into the media of oil and acrylic in order to enhance my knowledge of working colors, which will also, benefit my digital artwork.
My goal, as an artist, is to be able to visually transfer some of the life that surrounds me, into a piece of artwork, be it 2 or 3 dimensional, that the beholder would feel, as well as see, the beauty of the creation.
My plans for the future include entering upcoming art shows.
Member of the Boca Raton Museum of Art and the Artist Guild.
*Note* Charles passed away on July 2, 2009. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him and in this gallery which was his dream.
Born July 19th 1952 on Long Island NY in Amityville ( yes that Amityville of movie fame). I am the youngest of three and the only male. Most of my life has been spent right here on Long Island except for some of my teenage years that I spent hitchhiking around the country and marveling at what a beautiful land we live in. I have always had an interest in the photographic process, so in September 2006, being unemployed, I decided to return to school and finish my education by enrolling at Nassau Community College and majoring in photography. I am mainly a traditionalist, I love the smell and feel of the darkroom and a great portion of my work is in B/W film in all formats from 35mm to Large format. In December 2008 I bought my first digital, a Canon 40D and have been shooting primarily with that since then.
My goal, once I finish school, is to photograph the places in the USA that most people don't see (in B/W of course). What I call "The Real America", all the back roads and small towns that don't have major tourist traps and are off the beaten path. I would also love to travel to the Mid-East, Africa and Asia and try to change the way we see other people ( and how they see us), but for now I spend my time in Manhattan and on Long Island wandering with camera in hand making a nuisance of myself.
I was born 02-15-51, in Los Angelos, CA. As a child I regularly visited a ranch in Temecula, CA where a lasting bond with horses, dogs, cats and birds helped develope an artistic talent that grew into my becoming an art teacher.
Commissioned paintings of animals grew from a side business into a full time occupation and 25 years later I am still happy with my chosen career path of doing animal portraits, as well as other paintings. I wish to give joy to others with my art and am passionate with my love for children and animals.
Awards and Acknowledgments: I am a member of the Art Association, Culver City, CA; placed 2nd (out of 150 artists) at the CCAA art show, November, 2008. I have various civic awards for contributing to children and animal charities through my artwork, giving 10% to a chosen charity. I have also taught in the private sector for over 12 years fulfilling a desire to touch others with compassion and beauty.
Lisa Behrman:
I was born 9/11/60 in Boston, MA, now residing in Boca Raton, FL since 2003.
I specialize in Abstracts, Tropical Scenes, Landscapes, Seascapes, Figures, Florals, Surrealism and more.
Education:
I attended the MA College of Art, Boston; the Museum School at the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, and have taken many courses throughout my life, including courses at the Countess de Hornelle Museum School of Art in Boca Raton, FL.
Starting at age 11, I began winning both awards and scholarships for my artwork.
I was born in 1964, on the flatlands in the small NorthWest Texas town of Hereford about midway between Amarillo and Clovis, New Mexico. My grandfather used to migrate between Cherokee county Oklahoma and Hutchinson county, Texas, sometimes taking his family with him, where he would plant seventyfive acres of wheat on land leased by the man he spent eight months of the year working for "on the halves" as a sharecropper for his use of the land.
My father, having family ties in this region, would eventually meet my mother, whose Irish-Cherokee family had also migrated there from NorthEast Texas. My parents also moved back and forth from Texas to Oklahoma several times before finally settling down in the Tulsa area when I was around eight, where we've been for the last thirtyeight years.
I have been drawing since early childhood, ever since the time I was pilfering through the glovebox in my father's old pick-up truck where I found a small sketch of a pirate he had drawn.I recall being very impressed and thinking that I wanted to draw like that.
I am self taught, in that I've never attended any schools or classes to receive any sort of formal training, though I have been honored with the highly respected occasional advice from those who have. I feel that my talent is inherent as there are a few other artists in my family as well.
My expressions in my chosen mediums emanate from thoughts influenced by what I have seen in my life that have resonated with who I am and from where and whom I have come from. I am very pensive in nature and I sometimes feel as if I am on the cusp of some quantum breakthrough in technique or ability to express what I see in my mind's eye. I think we all carry the genetic, cellular memories of our progenitors which, in my perspective, is where much of my inspiration originates. I create tones which ring true to my frequency which still carries the notes of the songs of my Ancestors.
I have always been in possession of an affinity for all things stemming from antiquity, particularly from the natural world to which I have always felt a profound connection.
I was always whittling on sticks as a boy, so when I auspiciously crossed paths with Rex and Vickie Branson, I took to carving wood as if it were second nature. Rex and Vickie are nationally known wood and stone sculptors who have encouraged me with their generous instruction, wood, tools and open doors as they have welcomed me into their home to carve with them for twenty-three years.
I think I will always be creating something in my mind and with my hands. I especially love the warmth, texture and grain of wood. I like to honor the Trees by bringing out something of beauty. Although wood is my passion, I also like the malleability of copper and it's moody hued patinas. I've worked with clay in the past and will likely return to it soon. I'm also contemplating stone sculpting for it's durability and challenge.
I am always intrigued and have to know what aspects have attracted anyone to something I have created. I hope that I can continue to bring forth those elements that stir the observer in one way or another.
I was born on June 25, 1971 in Brooklyn, NY. to Charles and Linda Chiusano.
My parents divorced when I was three, and my mother married a wonderful man, Charles Steinhardt. I was lucky to have two fathers who loved and supported me my entire life.
I come from a family with artists on both sides of the family tree. Much to my horror, I discovered early on that I could not draw or paint! My hands were not capable of bringing to fruition what my eyes could see so clearly. I needed an outlet for my creativity that relied on "the eye" and I found this in one of my greatest passions, photography.
I was very young when my parents bought my first camera for me, and in a time before digital photography it still amazes me that I did not bankrupt them with film developing! If there were no people around, I would photograph our pets, the front yard, anything that did not run away...
It has always been a joke among people who know me that I am never without a camera... I actually photographed my daughter's first steps.
I have always believed that no matter where you are and who you are with, you never know when something will strike you as beautiful or interesting and it is always better to be prepared to get that perfect shot than to regret that you did not have your equipment with you!
I am a self taught digital artist/photographer whose works are rooted in the union ofdigital photography and computer graphics. I was born on February 7, 1957 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I still reside with my wife and two sons. My artistic creations tend to flow out of a strange combination of my life experiences. educational background rnA Psychology and MS Professional Counseling) and my intuitive nature. I find that everything I perceive serves to pique my interest and subsequently results capturing subtle, sometimes unusual, and highly fascinating everyday images in alternative perspectives. I am influenced by the works ofDali, KaWo, Pollock, Escher, Picasso and Olbinski. I am a juried member of Artspace 2000. I have been thrice invited to participate in the Biennale Internazionale deIl'Arte ContempQIImea (2005,2007 and 2009) in Florence, Italy. My past exhibitions include the New York Art Festival. the DLG Gallerv (Chicago, IL), MlAD Venado Tuerto 2006 Exhibition (Argentina), the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art Snap to Grid exhibition, the Art Bar (Milwaukee, WD, Sven's Cafe (Milwaukee, WI), and 4Art Inc Gallery (Chicago, IL). I was the featured new artist in the Digital Abstract website for the month of April 2005, I received a third place award ("Lost in Song" -Spirit and Creative Force) in the 2005 Artists Helping Artists & Creative Line Magazine Call to Arts International Juried Art Competition (Cal Poly Downtown Center, Pomona, CA June 25. 2005) and I received a second place award in the Mosaic Globe's 2007 Creative Community Competition. I have designed many original personalized commission pieces marketed through CAZ Designs Inc. Interior Design (Orange County, California). I am currently exhibiting in the Purloin Studio (Menomonee Falls. WI).
I was born on September 19,1958 in Schwabach, Germany. I did photography for the school newspaper and yearbook in High School and fell in love!
In College, I took photography and printing classes and worked with 35 mm cameras.
Now I usually use a digital camera because of the freedom it gives me but I still love 35 mm. I have taught myself digital editing software, and really appreciate the kinds of effects you can get. However, there is nothing in the world like taking a picture that requires no editing whatsoever!
I love photography and I love sharing my gift with others. Being able to share what appeals to me individually with other people and seeing what a beautiful shot can do to their (and for their) soul, spirit and happiness is what being an artist is all about!
I was born on the second day of November in 1965. My only formal training was High School art classes. My teachers claimed I was a "natural" which made sense to me because art has always been second nature to me. I create what I feel.
The early days of my art career were typical teenage rebel stuff. I airbrushed every motorcycle or car I could get my hands on, and even got into tattoos for a while.
Now, the most I could hope to accomplish with my work would be to let someone see what I see, to watch the light come on in their eyes and their mouth drop open... to let them walk away with a piece of myself that they can enjoy.
I was born in Brooklyn New York on December 22nd 1966. Growing up as a child in tough economic times not unlike today, there wasn't much in the way of toys. So I amused myself as well as my grandparents with the many creations that I could make with just a simple piece of paper and a pair of scissors.
I can remember in almost every art class being recognized for my unique perspective, color sense and composition. I hold an AAS in Fine Arts and an AAS in Visual Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
My career paths took me on numerous careers some were creative some were not so creative. Each of these careers I would say that my creative background and Fine Art training led to some advantages. These career paths include: airbrush illustration, point of purchase design, trade show design, lighting design, store fixture design as well as real estate planning for Merrill Lynch and currently space planning for Merck Pharmaceuticals.
The fine art road for me has been a road less traveled. Some life changes has now brought me back to where I started as a child. As one of my wise and dearest friends keeps reminding me "The bend in the road is never the end of the road !"
I am inspired by all things in nature and look for patterns that catch my eye. I never know what that might be. Maybe today its shells on the beach, tomorrow it's some Greek statue while yet again .... It might just be the way the bark of a tree catches the light!
